All Easy to Chew (IDDSI Level 7) Recipes

Easy to Chew Veggie Patty Stacker IDDSI Level EC7

Easy-to-chew foods are designed for people who can eat most regular foods but need extra tenderness and moisture to reduce chewing effort. This level works well for mild dysphagia, dental changes, fatigue, or anyone who benefits from softer meals without strict texture modification.

These recipes follow IDDSI Level 7 (Easy to Chew) guidelines. Foods are tender, moist, and easy to break down, while still resembling everyday meals.

What makes Easy to Chew different

Easy to chew is the least restrictive IDDSI level.

  • Foods are soft and tender, but not cut into small pieces
  • Chewing is required, but minimal force is needed
  • Moisture is built into the dish to prevent dryness

This level bridges modified textures and regular eating, helping people stay confident and comfortable at the table.

Foods that usually work well at this level

Common easy-to-chew foods include:

  • Tender meats cooked until soft and easy to bite through
  • Moist casseroles, pastas, and rice dishes
  • Well cooked vegetables without tough skins
  • Soft breads or baked items prepared with added moisture
  • Eggs, fish, legumes, and tofu cooked gently

Foods that are dry, crusty, chewy, or fibrous may still need modification.
